Offered here is a charming and
increasingly rare 1966 Bedford CA Van, presented in eye-catching green and
representing the final facelifted generation of Bedford’s iconic “pug-nose”
light commercial vehicle. First introduced in late 1964, this third-generation
CA featured a more modernized design with its deeper windscreen, enlarged side
windows, and distinctive pressed aluminium grille, giving it a fresher look
while retaining the unmistakable character that made the CA one of Britain’s
most recognizable small vans. With Bedford producing approximately 370,000
examples between 1952 and 1969 before the arrival of the CF, surviving examples
such as this are becoming ever more collectible.
Imported to the UK in 1993 and first registered here on 25th October
of that year, this example has had six former keepers, with its current owner
having cared for it since June 2012. Powered by its dependable 1600cc petrol
engine paired with a manual gearbox, this Bedford retains its practical
rear-wheel-drive configuration and characteristic semi-forward-control layout,
with the engine partially housed within the cab to maximize usable space. True
to its working roots, it also features the wonderfully practical sliding side
doors that helped set the CA apart in period.
This van has been running and driving on site, brakes do need
attention, offering an exciting opportunity for its next custodian to enjoy
immediately while considering cosmetic improvements over time. The bodywork
would benefit from future attention, but it remains usable and full of
personality as it stands today, turning heads wherever it goes with its
