Resting for 30 years and
now awaiting restoration; totally standard pickup; rewarding project for the
next custodian
The 88-inch pickup has
long been regarded as the most versatile of the Series models, combining the
compact wheelbase with a generous load bed and simple rugged construction.
Light, maneuverable and famously durable, these short-wheelbase pickups
were equally at home on farms, estates and building sites, and today remain one
of the most sought-after
configurations for restoration thanks to their usability and classic
proportions.
Finished in blue and fitted
with a well-aged blue canvas
tilt, this 1973 Series III 88-inch pickup is a
straightforward and appealing project for the Land Rover enthusiast. Showing
89,833 miles and just six former keepers, it retains the standard 2,286cc petrol
engine.
Laid up for the past 30 years,
the vehicle now requires full recommissioning. It rolls freely, the tyres all
hold air, and the vendor reports that the engine has run recently with the aid
of a fresh battery and an external fuel supply.
Accompanying the
Land Rover is a current V5C, the original Series III owner’s manual, a selection
of period photographs, plus various invoices and parts lists. A solid basis for
restoration and a rewarding project for the next
custodian.
