First registered in August 1984, this early Porsche 944 Lux Automatic
is a particularly desirable example, being one of the sought-after square
dashboard, yellow instrument dial models.
Finished in elegant Burgundy
Metallic Red, it is complemented by the rare and highly desirable black Porsche
script cloth interior, a combination that perfectly captures the distinctive
style of Porsche's transaxle sports cars of the mid-1980s.
Showing just 36,786 miles, the mileage appears entirely consistent
with the accompanying MOT history, with the car covering a mere 566 miles during
the last 20 years while spending much of that time in dry storage. It has had
only six former keepers from new and is accompanied by a useful history file
including 14 previous MOT certificates, three service stamps, the original
owner's handbook, sales brochure and a Haynes workshop
manual.
Powered by Porsche's renowned 2,479cc
four-cylinder engine, paired with a smooth automatic transmission, the 944
offers excellent balance thanks to its front-engine, rear transaxle layout,
making it one of the finest handling sports cars of its era. The MOT expired in
June 2025 and, due to its age, the car is now MOT exempt.
Despite its extended periods of storage, the Porsche was driven over
25 miles to our site, where it started readily, drove, stopped and performed
exactly as expected while being photographed and filmed.
The car appears to remain remarkably original throughout, retaining
many of the features that make these early Lux models so desirable. There are a
handful of age-related cosmetic marks consistent with a well-preserved
forty-year-old motor car, but these do little to detract from its overall
presentation or originality.
Increasingly
appreciated by collectors and enthusiasts alike, early 944s continue to gain
recognition for their superb handling, everyday usability and timeless styling.
With its attractive colour combination, exceptionally low indicated mileage,
rare interior trim, desirable early specification and apparent originality, this
represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly collectible example of
Porsche's iconic transaxle sports car.
