Early 1960s TVR Grantura
2A Restoration Project; originally registered as 893 XPD but we have
been unable to find the chassis number so far; known to the TVR Owners club from
back in the 70s
An exciting opportunity to
acquire a rare and increasingly sought-after early 1960s TVR Grantura 2A,
offered as a rewarding restoration project with tremendous
potential.
Originally on 893 XPD,
the car is fitted with the correct-style 1,500cc MGA engine and gearbox,
reflecting the period mechanical specification commonly found in Grantura models
of this era. We are currently awaiting further information from the TVR Car Club
to confirm details including the chassis number and any additional factory
records that may be available.
Prospective purchasers should
note that the vehicle does not currently have a V5C registration document, and
the successful buyer will need to apply to the DVLA for a replacement
registration document following the purchase. (One would assume it would be
possible to re-register on 893 XPD)
According to information
supplied to us, the TVR was last on the road during the mid-1970s, when it was
dismantled with the intention of carrying out a restoration. During this time
the body is understood to have been repainted from its original blue to its
current red, although the project was unfortunately never completed, and the car
has remained dismantled ever since.
Accompanying the sale is a
workshop manual together with a small selection of receipts dating from the
mid-1970s, providing an interesting glimpse into the restoration that was
started but never finished.
With their lightweight
glassfibre bodies, sporting pedigree and limited production numbers, early
Granturas have become highly desirable among collectors and marque enthusiasts.
This example offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced restorer to
return a rare British sports car to its former glory, creating a distinctive and
rewarding classic that is seldom seen on today's
roads.
