Increasingly scarce long-wheelbase example; old english white with
period style vinyl roof; powered by Jaguar's legendary 4,235cc straight-six;
luxury usable classic with seventies charm
The
Daimler Sovereign Long Wheelbase is a fine example of 1970s British luxury
motoring. Based on the Jaguar XJ Series II, the long-wheelbase model offered
extra rear passenger space while retaining the smooth ride, refined handling and
understated styling for which the range is well known. Today, it remains a
comfortable and usable classic, equally at home on tours, at shows or simply
enjoyed on a sunny weekend.
Manufactured in 1976
with only 8 former keepers, this Sovereign is finished in what is believed to be
Old English White, complemented by a contrasting tan vinyl roof and matching
leather interior, a combination that suits the car particularly
well.
Originally supplied in a period shade of
brown, it is not known when the car was repainted. The Old English White finish
shows off the Sovereign's elegant lines to good effect and remains in smart,
presentable condition, with only a few age-related imperfections, the most
notable of which have been photographed. The chrome work, window trims and
wheels all present well and complete the car's classic
appearance.
Inside, the tan leather interior
remains smart and perfectly usable with only minor damage to the rear of the
driver seat pictured. The wool headlining also presents in particularly good
order. The wood veneer trim is all present, as are the polished stainless-steel
sill plates, giving the cabin the traditional feel expected of a
Daimler.
Having run and driven on site for our
photography and video, this Sovereign offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy a
comfortable, characterful British saloon that represents excellent value in
today's classic car market.
