Extremely rare Model A Roadster Pickup in even rarer factory
right-hand drive; incredibly original condition with gorgeous and characterful
patina; only two registered keepers in the UK since import from New Zealand;
recent works completed
The Ford Model A Pick-Up
Roadster is one of the rarer and more desirable variants of the iconic Model A
range. Produced in far smaller numbers than the familiar saloons and tourers,
surviving examples are seldom offered for sale, particularly in such distinctive
open pick-up form.
Combining unmistakable pre-war
styling with simple, dependable mechanicals, the Model A Pick-Up Roadster
remains a charming and highly collectable vintage vehicle, well suited to
rallies, shows and summer events.
Remarkably,
this highly original example was manufactured in Canada in 1930 and is rarer
still as a factory-built right-hand-drive model, exported new to New Zealand.
Such provenance is seldom encountered and only adds to the appeal of an already
uncommon Model A Pick-Up Roadster.
The truck
remained in New Zealand until being imported to the UK in 1992 by its first UK
owner, who retained it for over 24 years, suggesting it was a particularly
cherished example. Our vendor is only the truck's second UK keeper and has
enjoyed ownership since 2017.
During that time,
it has benefitted from a new clutch, head gasket and battery, together with a
full service. Having covered very little mileage in the last few
years coming from long term storage, we have had the truck running and
driving on site as can be seen in the accompanying video. Bidders are advised
that as with any vehicle coming from storage some recommisioning work will
likely be required.
Presented in wonderfully
original order, the truck retains many of its period features, including the
side-mounted twin spare wheels and removable roof. Believed to retain its
original brown coachwork, complemented by contrasting bright orange wheels, it
is an eye-catching example that perfectly captures the character of Ford's early
commercial vehicles.
Accompanying the truck is a
selection of marque literature, vintage parts catalogues, shipping
documentation, invoices and notes detailing work carried out over the years,
further adding to this Model A’s history and appeal.
With less original left-hand-drive examples often achieving figures
around the estimate, this remarkably original factory right-hand-drive Pick-Up
Roadster represents an increasingly rare opportunity. A charming and highly
usable vintage commercial, it would make a superb addition to any pre-war or
commercial vehicle collection.
