Desirable 2,287cc petrol short-wheelbase Series III; showing just an
indicated 43,272 miles; driven twenty miles to the sale without fault; charming
and genuine condition with great patina; ready to work or play
The Land Rover Series III is one of Britain's most
recognisable and capable classic 4x4s. Introduced in 1971 as the final
development of the original Series Land Rover, it combined rugged simplicity
with exceptional off-road ability. Today, its timeless styling, straightforward
mechanicals and remarkable versatility continue to make it a favourite with
enthusiasts, whether used for shows, green laning or leisurely weekend
drives.
Manufactured in 1980, this desirable
88-inch short-wheelbase Series III is powered by the sought-after 2,286cc petrol
engine and displays just 43,272 miles. While bidders should satisfy themselves
as to the mileage, the Land Rover's condition, together with its modest MOT
mileage history—covering approximately 10,000 miles over the last
decade—suggests it has been well cared for and sparingly used throughout its
life.
With its white roof over original ‘Marine
Blue’ paintwork, this Series III presents as a smart, honest example with the
charming patina and light wear befitting a well-preserved Land Rover of its age.
As one would expect from a vehicle built for work rather than show, there are a
few minor cosmetic imperfections, all of which have been photographed, but they
don’t detract from its character or overall appeal. The car is also fitted with
a full tow bar, and a good set of Michelin Latitude tyres all
round.
The interior follows the same theme and
remains smart and usable with no major wear or rips to the upholstery and some
handy branded rubber floor and boot matts fitted. Matching the outside there is
some light wear photographed but this again arguably only adds to its
charm.
Accompanying the Landy is a rather handy
Haynes service manual, as well as a handful of invoices for parts and for work
completed by well-respected Land Rover specialists Hereford
4x4.
Running and driving as one would expect on
site and having driven nearly twenty miles to the sale without fault, this very
honest and charming Series III presents as a strong example of the breed and
ready for its next adventure. With its indicated low mileage and keen estimate,
surely one to keep an eye on.
