Well pampered example driven over 50 miles to the sale; subject
to a thorough documented restoration and accompanied by large stack of
invoices; fitted with upgraded seats, electronic ignition and alternator
conversion to name but a few
The MG Midget 1500
remains one of Britain's most enduring and accessible classic sports cars.
Introduced as the final evolution of the long-running Midget range, the 1500
benefitted from a larger engine that offered improved torque and more relaxed
cruising.
Manufactured in 1979 and finished in
striking white, this MG Midget 1500 has had just six keepers from new and
displays an indicated 48,666 miles. Whilst bidders should satisfy themselves as
to the mileage, the MOT history suggests the car has been used sparingly over
the last 14 years, covering approximately 6,000 miles during that
period.
The accompanying history file shows the
car benefitted from a comprehensive, documented restoration in the early 2000s,
with the bodywork, mechanicals and interior all receiving significant
attention.
Supporting this is an extensive file of invoices from the
Welsh MG Centre covering a vast array of parts and work undertaken, from engine
components and body panels to trim fixings, all pointing to a meticulous
recommissioning. A selection of restoration photographs accompanies the car,
with the full archive available to view in the office.
More recently, in 2024, the car was treated to an electronic ignition
conversion, a refurbished cylinder head, along with various new gaskets and
suspension components, all supported by invoices on file.
The older restoration continues to present well, with only a few
minor cosmetic imperfections, the most notable of which have been photographed.
The contrasting grey Minilite-style alloy wheels are in excellent condition and
are shod with Michelin tyres all round. Inside, the cabin is equally smart,
featuring upgraded seats and showing no obvious rips or tears.
The vendor
advises that, while perfectly usable, the hood would benefit from replacement,
with new items readily available through the MG specialists and owners'
club.
Having covered over 50 miles to the sale
without issue, the Midget has driven on site exactly as one would expect and
appears ready to be enjoyed for the remainder of the summer. A great value entry
into top-down classic motoring ready to drive home.
