Long-term ownership example thats been with the vendor since 1998 –
approaching 28 years; bodywork restoration in 2010 including new genuine front
wings; Magnex exhaust and downpipe; showing 115,636 miles
First
registered in 1988, this Mk1 Toyota MR2 is finished in a dark metallic blue and
retains the correct velour interior with the distinctive, angular dashboard that
so clearly identifies the model. A long-term ownership example, it has been
with the vendor since 1998 – approaching 28 years – and now shows 115,636 miles, a
modest average of just over 3,000 miles per annum. It comes with an MOT valid
until April 2027 and was driven to the sale.
The Mk1 MR2 needs little introduction as one of
the defining sports cars of the 1980s. Launched in 1984, it quickly earned
praise for its sharp handling, rev-happy engines and distinctive
wedge-shaped styling. As
Toyota’s first mid-engined production model, it
demonstrated the company’s engineering confidence at the time
and has since become one of the most characterful Japanese classics of its era.
Surviving examples have thinned considerably, making long-owned cars such as this increasingly
desirable.
In
2010 the car underwent a programme of restorative work which included the
fitment of a pair of genuine Toyota front wings, replacement inner and outer
rear arches (as pictured), and a fresh repaint. The vendor chose a slightly
deeper shade of blue from the Mazda range, which suits the lines of the car
well. A Magnex exhaust and downpipe were also fitted at this
time.
The
paperwork includes the current V5C, the original book pack and a hefty
folder of invoices covering servicing and restoration parts over the
years.
A
well-kept, long-owned and sympathetically improved
example of the increasingly sought-after AW11 MR2, offered with a long
MOT and presenting well in its chosen colour scheme that was driven to the sale
and ready to enjoy this summer.
