Handsome Morris Oxford Light Saloon; 1,939cc
six-cylinder engine; restored coachbuilt
light saloon, V5C shows four former keepers
First registered in 1931, this
handsome Morris Oxford Light Saloon is powered by the smooth 1,939cc
six-cylinder petrol engine, developing
around 40bhp, a notable step up from the four-cylinder units used in earlier
models. Finished in an attractive combination of blue with gloss-black mudguards, it presents as a
very appealing early ’30s family saloon with the upright
charm and elegance typical of the period.
Previously owned for many years by a local
vintage and classic car restorer, the car benefited from a programme of
sympathetic refurbishment a few years ago. This included a full respray in the
original colours, a retrim in blue leather to the original pattern, along with a
new headlining, new carpets, and re-polished timber cappings. A set of
five new tyres was also fitted at the time.
The car retains many of its original fittings,
including the leather gaiters on the springs, semaphore indicators (with modern
flashers also fitted), Hi-Flex bars for the headlamps and
sidelights fitted, and the original turn-to-operate switch. The current V5C
records only four former keepers, which is unusually low for a car of this
age.
The vendor
assures us that the Morris is starting, running and driving well, and it has
been starting and driving on site for the photographs and video, showing good
oil pressure as pictured. It has also been recently serviced, adding confidence
for the next owner.
Eligible
for VSCC events, this is a very charming and well-sorted
early Morris, offering period character, attractive presentation and the benefit
of recent restorative work.
