Just three owners, the current since 2023; 12,505 miles indicated;
nice 'oily rag' condition
The Honda Chaly
(CF50) was introduced in 1972 as a more usable ‘step-thru’ version of the rather
utilitarian Dax and Super Cub. Compact and comfortable, it was ideal for
nipping down to the shops and was the perfect steed to strap to the back of your
yacht or motorhome so you could whizz around St Tropez like one of the locals.
While the 50cc version is more common, this 72cc
CF70 is the ‘big bore’ variant of the family. Using the same air-cooled,
4-stroke SOHC single-cylinder engine found in the ST70 Dax, it has a 3-speed
semi-automatic gearbox, featuring an automatic centrifugal clutch for effortless
‘twist-and-go’ riding. With a bit more torque and top-end speed than the CF50,
it is more capable in modern traffic.
Presented
in an honest, unrestored state, this Chaly has had just three owners from new,
the current since 2023, and displays a credible 12,505 miles on the clock. In
nice 'oily rag' condition, it has an authentic patina built up over the last 50
years, with surface corrosion visible on the chromework and 10” wheels. More
importantly though, it appears complete and unmolested. The original seat
remains in good order with the ‘HONDA’ stencil intact, and the hard-to-find
plastic leg shields are still present.
We are
told that it was last running two or three years ago so a precautionary
check-over would be advisable before use.
