Lot Ended
Description
Genuine and largely
original vintage saloon; owned by our vendor since 1978; will need some light
recommissioning
This mighty Austin 12 was
first registered in March 1929 and although being offered here as a non runner
it surely would not take a lot of work to get back on the
road.
Registered as VE 705, it was
first purchased by our vendor in 1978. Used regularly in the 80s for local
rallies, visits to the pub and even a 2,000 mile round trip to Holland in 1983,
it started to be used sparingly in the 90s, when our vendor moved to London and
the family grew!
Although occasionally used, it
was mostly garaged and re-introduced to the road between 2011 and 2019 after a
cracked con rod and kingpins were replaced. While being stored with a restorer
in Wales, further work included the renewal of the magneto, carburetor, autovac,
and a thorough going over of the engine. All inner tubes were also replaced.
After being driven about 200 miles, it was reported to be driving
‘well’.
Now another five years down
the line, it has not really been used at all since the work done above. We have
not had it running here , although the engine still turns and our vendor
believes it should not take too much to breathe some further life into
her.
Carrying the expected patina
and ‘oily rag’ look you would expect from a 1929 car, this look to be a genuine
mostly original car (would have been repainted and re-upholstered some
considerable time ago), and once a little work is done, would be an ideal entry into
vintage motoring.
