Description
From a deceased estate; unfinished restoration; good running order;
lots done; lots still to do; a nice little project for someone with great
potential
First registered
in January 1969, this Morris Mini Cooper Mk2 998cc has effectively had just four
owners from new, the first keeping it for 10 years, the second for 29 years and
the third for 16 years.
Our vendor acquired the
car in March 2024 as a project to keep him busy in his retirement but sadly
passed away before the job was finished. A quick tot up of the invoices show
that over £1,000 was spent on parts alone, all supplied by Mini Sport of
Lancashire and Mini Spares of Potters Bar.
They
include a few interior and exterior trim parts (chrome strips for the door
pockets and cappings; door check straps; stainless steel window surround trim
etc) but the rest are mainly lots of fiddly mechanical items (track rod ends;
brake calipers, pads and master cylinder; wheel cylinders; water pump; dynamo;
clutch hydraulics; cables; hoses etc).
There are
also a few historic invoices to show upkeep during the 1980s and 1990s.
A couple of old MOTs show 10,673 miles in 1994 and
11,805 miles in 2010, the odometer currently showing 12,133 miles so it clearly
hasn’t been used much in the last 30+ years.
The V5C records four former
keepers because it was put into the name of the owner's wife when he passed
away.
As you can see in the photos, there is
still plenty of work to do to get this Cooper back to pristine condition but it
has been starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on
site. A Haynes workshop manual is included to assist you in this
task.
This Cooper 998 could potentially be worth £30k+ when restored to a
high standard so it looks mighty tempting at the modest guide price
suggested.
