Garages of Redditch in October 1989, this Mercury Grey Ford Escort XR3i has had
just three owners from the new, the second of whom kept it for 30 years (1992 –
2022). It shows just 56,170 miles on the clock, the original service book
containing six stamps, the last at 20,171 miles in April 1999.
Our vendor acquired
the XR3i in December 2022 at which point it had been in storage for over 15
years. He fully recommissioned the car including a new cam belt and water pump
kit, complete new clutch, new front brake discs and pads and a service. He also
had the wheels refurbished and fitted with five new tyres and it has been kept
on static display as part of his collection ever since.
As you can see in the photos,
it is in nicely original condition with minimal signs of wear, having been
kept garaged for most of its life, although it looks like it
has been repainted to a decent standard at some point in the past.
It has been starting promptly and running very nicely as we have moved
it around on site, although we did note that the brake pedal is rather spongey
due to lack of recent use.
A proper time capsule, this
low-mileage XR3i comes with all its original handbooks and would sit well in any
Fast Ford collection.
