Recently recommissioned following a period in storage; new cam belt,
tensioners and water pump; full brake system overhaul; new radiator; Mazda RX7
seats; full roll-cage; power winch; LED light bar; ready for some serious
off-road action
First registered
in January 1994, this Defender 90 2.5 Turbo Diesel sadly comes with very little
history but it has clearly had a lot of money thrown at it to turn it into the
beast you see today.
Various modifications are
in evidence including Mazda RX7 seats, substantial external roll-cage, sump and
diff guards, beefed up suspension, power winch at the front, rear tow hitch,
additional dash instruments, checker plate front wing tops, roof-mounted front
LED light bar, LED headlights and humungous off-road tyres.
HPI records a colour change from blue to white
in May 2014 and the MOT history online shows that it was in regular use until
2016. Originally registered as FFF 21, it gained its current (transferable) A19
GLK plate in 2011.
Our vendor acquired the
vehicle in late 2024, at which point it had been in storage for several years.
He set about a thorough recommissioning process, doing some of the routine
service jobs himself and enlisting professional help as
required.
An invoice shows that in January this
year it had a full cam belt kit plus water pump and tensioners. The engine oil
and filter were renewed along with the diesel filter. The braking system was
fully overhauled with a new master cylinder, four new calipers and new copper
pipes. It also got a new radiator plus new door handles and keys. The vendor
supplied the parts and the labour came to £1,600.
It then flew through an MOT with no advisories recorded and it has
only been lightly used since. We are told that it drives well and it has
certainly been starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on
site, although the vendor advises that the power steering belt needs
adjusting/renewing as it squeals a bit on full lock. He also tells us that the
2.5 diesel engine is the original unit, making it a 'matching numbers' machine.
As you can see in the photos, this macho
Defender 90 has a couple of battle scars on the front right wing but looks well
set up for some serious off-road action.
