Under 3,000 miles since body-off restoration; Ford Sierra 5-speed
gearbox; a beautiful car all round
Quite simply
one of the prettiest sports car ever made on these shores, the MGA is also
fantastic fun to drive and easy to maintain with all parts readily available at
modest cost. Not that parts should be troubling the buyer of this beauty any
time soon – just look at it!
Imported from
America in 2017, this MGA 1600 was then treated to a complete body-off
restoration by a former MG mechanic who had grown up working on these cars in
the 1960s and ‘70s. Originally red and in pretty good shape to begin with (as
shown in photos on file), it was given a bare metal repaint in Iris Blue, a
popular MG colour of the era.
It was also
converted to RHD and fitted with a Ford Sierra 5-speed gearbox and a Borg Warner
clutch, a well-known conversion that transforms the driving experience and makes
for a more relaxed cruising gait on modern motorways.
Every other aspect of the car was attended to as required, and
although there are no invoices to show exactly what was done, the car speaks for
itself and there are over 100 photos of the restoration on a memory stick and in
a photo album (a couple of which we have reproduced here).
Our vendor acquired the car from the restorer in April 2018 and has
covered just under 3,000 miles in it since, as shown by three old MOTs on file.
The last MOT expired in February this year with no advisories recorded, nor has
it ever had any advisories, and it is, of course, now MOT-exempt. Serviced
annually by Automec of Swansea, it was last serviced only 900 miles ago. It also
comes with an owner's handbook and a 300-page workshop
manual.
Driven 80 miles to the sale, it
has been starting promptly and running beautifully as we have moved it around on
site, with good 60psi oil pressure. As you can see in the photos, it looks
absolutely wonderful and you would be hard pressed to find a better example, let
alone at the sensible guide price suggested.
