1989 Land Rover Discovery V8
Pre-production V8
Manual Discovery; comprehensively restored; a cool Range Rover
Classic alternative at half the price - and much more exclusive;
highly collectable
This
very early Discovery is a car that should be in any serious Land Rover
collectors garage. Not only is it special because of its pre-production status,
but it has also been sympathetically restored over the last 12
months.
It has been treated to a full body restoration and respray and
the chassis has been refurbished and wax-oiled - including all the body
underside and wheel arches.
The braking system has been overhauled from
front to back and new shocks and springs fitted all round. The suspension has
been Polybushed.
New tyres have been fitted to the refurbished wheels and
the transfer box, gearbox and both axles fully serviced. It also had a new
clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing.
The V8 engine runs on carbs,
which have been rebuilt and water hoses replaced. The compressions were tested
OK and the engine given a careful checkover with gaskets and seals replaced
as required.
The funky Conran interior has been deep cleaned
and sympathetically reinstalled and it all looks smart and as it should be
- it even comes with its uber-rare Land Rover removable travel
bag!!
The multiple photos on the website, particularly of the
underside show you everything you need to know about it and it is MOTd
until September 2023 with no advisories which is unsurprising. The odometer
is showing an unsubstantiated 143,000 miles.
We suspect that it has spent
a lot of time off the road in recent years, the online MOT history only showing
its most recent MOT test which would stack up given the restoration work that
has been carried out.
On offer at a fraction of the cost of restoration
and at a fraction of the cost of an equivelent Range Rover Classic, this
impressive Discovery looks even more enticing when its pre-production
status is taken into account and is surely one to watch.
