First
registered in August 1969, this exceptional Rover P5B V8 3.5 Litre Coupé is
surely among the finest examples of the model available today. The odometer
currently displays just 9,757 miles, which we understand is believed to
represent the mileage covered since the completion of its restoration in circa
2019-2020.
Its
reported that the car was subject to comprehensive restoration by a respected
marque specialist. The body was stripped back to bare metal throughout,
including the underside, with very little welding required thanks to the
remarkably sound condition of the original structure. Following this, the car
was professionally refinished and extensively treated with Dinitrol rust
protection.
An
extensive list of restoration works includes over £3,500 spent on New Old Stock
chrome components, many of which are now extremely difficult to source. A NOS
mild steel exhaust system was fitted, while the cylinder heads, power steering
pump and automatic gearbox were all professionally reconditioned. The front
suspension was completely rebuilt and powder-coated, complemented by new front
brake discs, an uprated radiator and a full set of whitewall tyres, spare
excepted. The rear springs were dismantled and restored as part of the
rebuild.
The
interior presents to an outstanding standard, having been restored to concours
condition by acknowledged specialists. It features the desirable early-style
front seats (with headrests) and remains in virtually unmarked condition
throughout. The wood veneer was refinished to way beyond factory spec by Chapman
& Cliff, former Rolls-Royce craftsmen, while the headlining and trim were
renewed using premium quality materials, carefully colour matched throughout the
cabin. A particularly rare feature are the illuminated rear-seat
headrests.
Accompanying the car are its V5C registration
document, a previous MOT certificate and a file of invoices that cover some of
the restoration and maintenance work.
Reportedly costing in excess of £35,000 to
restore, this beautifully presented P5B Coupé is a highly attractive example of
Rover's flagship sporting saloon, offering exceptional presence, quality and
